Detroit Public Schools has filed for federal disaster relief, The Detroit News reports.

I think this is wise. I think what’s happening in Detroit should be treated similar to a natural disaster.

It will be interesting to see if Washington comes through for Detroit school kids with the same vigour they’ve defended derivatives traders.

On one hand, I’m worried because Detroit has become kind of a political buzz-word for the right. On the other hand, I feel reassured because our president is a reasonable person.
