There is a severe shortage of skilled and professional workforce in the United States. With this in mind, the US Chamber of Commerce has called on the Biden administration and the US Congress to double the number of H-1B visas and eliminate each country’s quota for green cards.
The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa under which US companies employ specialist workers in the United States from overseas.
US IT companies hire a large number of IT professionals from India and China on H-1B visas. The United States currently issues H-1B visas to 3,000 foreign workers each year. In addition, 50,000 H-1B visas are issued separately to foreigners studying in the United States.
The US Chamber of Commerce has sought to increase the existing H-1B visa quota to 5,000. He also demanded that the quota for foreigners pursuing higher studies in the United States be increased to 20,000.
“This is the right time for the United States to move forward,” said Suzanne Kirlak, president and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce. In such a situation, the shortage of employees will become a headache for American companies.
The number of employment based immigrant visas has also been increased from 1.50 lakh to 2.50 lakh.
