The second phase of the world’s most popular T20 cricket league Indian Premier League-2021 will start from 19 September. The rest of the IPL matches will be played in the UAE. The first match will be between Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings and Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians. Despite playing under bio-bubble in India, some players had to cancel the IPL midway due to Corona.
Sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the match between Mumbai and Chennai will start from September 19 in the second phase of the IPL. Qualifiers 1 and 2 will be played on October 10 and 13 respectively. When the Eliminator will be played on October 11.
Ever since the IPL has been canceled midway, the BCCI is exploring the possibility of playing the rest of its matches. Ultimately it was decided to play the rest of the league in the UAE. Last week, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had officially said that the board has decided to play the IPL in the UAE.
However, it remains to be seen how many overseas players will play in the remaining matches. The board has expressed confidence that most foreign players will play in the tournament. According to the BCCI, the West Indies Cricket Board has also changed the schedule of its Caribbean Premier League so that players other than the West Indies can play in the IPL.
