Manika Batra: Manika Batra breaks silence on coach controversy – Tokyo Olympics Manika Batra breaks silence on coach controversy

salient feature:

India’s table tennis star Manika Batra lost to an Austrian player and was not allowed to enter the stadium outside the Tokyo Olympics. Batima later refused to take over as the national coach. Table tennis medalist Manika Batra lost in the third round of women’s singles. Manika Batra lost 8-11, 2-11, 5-11, 7-11 to Sofia Polkanova of Austria. Earlier, Manika Batra’s campaign in mixed doubles was over.

Manika Batra lost to the coach in the match against Polkanova. In fact, during that match, Manika’s personal coach Sanmay Paranjpe was not allowed to enter the stadium. In protest, he refused to hire national coach Soumyadeep Roy. However, Soumyadeep Roy was spotted at the Coaches Corner on 24 July when Sharath Kamal and Manika went out to play a round of 16 match in mixed doubles.

Now Manika has broken the silence on the coach controversy. “Everybody wants someone to support them,” Manika told a media channel. The coach I was playing against was behind him. It is important to have a coach at this level to stay mentally strong and mentor in such a big Olympic event. I requested the coach to allow it. I am not blaming anyone for this.

“To be honest, none of the players are satisfied,” said the 26-year-old paddler. I am not satisfied with my performance today. I have written down the mistakes I have made. I will go to India and work to rectify those mistakes. There is very little time left in the Paris Olympics. This year is the World Championship and next year is the Commonwealth Games. I will try my best in training. I am not thinking about this tournament anymore. It will be on my mind but I will try to focus on training regardless.
