India has won another silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics. Wrestler Ravi Dahiya lost in the final and had to be content with the silver medal. In the men’s freestyle 57kg final, Ravi Dahiya lost to Zavur Uguev 4-7. Along with the Raveena medal, India has won a total of five medals at the Tokyo Olympics with two silver and three bronze.
Ravi Dahiya is the second Indian after veteran wrestler Sushil Kumar to win a silver medal in wrestling. Sushil Kumar won a silver medal in the 66kg category at the 2012 London Olympics. Sushil had earlier won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Thus Sushil is the only Indian wrestler and Indian athlete to have won two medals in wrestling.
However, badminton star PV Sindhu equaled Sushil Kumar by winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games. Sindhu, who won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, won a bronze medal in Tokyo, becoming the first Indian woman to win two individual Olympic medals and the second athlete after Sushil Kumar.
Ravi Dahiya has become the fifth Indian wrestler to win a medal in wrestling. Earlier, KD Jadhav, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Sakshi Malik have won Olympic medals in wrestling.
