England vs India 1st Test Draw: Rain Snatch Team India Win, First Test Draw Against England

Sports Desk: The first match of the five-match Test series between India and England has been drawn due to rain and bad weather. Not a single ball was bowled on the 5th day of the first test and the match was declared a draw. Chasing the target of 209 runs till the end of the fourth day’s play, Team India needed 51 runs for one wicket and needed only 157 runs to win. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara were seen in good rhythm on the field, the target seemed easy, but the match was drawn due to rain throughout the day.

When India came out to chase the target, KL Rahul (26 runs in 38 balls) took the responsibility. He shared a 34-run partnership with Rohit Sharma (12 not out off 34 balls) before being caught by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off Stuart Broad. Cheteshwar Pujara (12 not out off 13 balls) opened the scoring by hitting Broad at square leg but was saved in the last two balls of the over.

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets for the sixth time in his career to prevent England from scoring big despite Root’s century in the second innings. On Saturday, England scored 303 runs in their second innings with the help of 109 runs from Captain Root. England scored 183 runs in their first innings, in response to which India scored 278 runs to take a 95-run lead.

Root faced 172 balls with a good batting line-up and hit 14 fours in his innings but was not supported from the other end. Other England batsmen started well but failed to score big. Bumrah (5 for 64) played a key role in England’s second innings. This is the sixth time he has taken five or more wickets in an innings. He also got a lot of support from Mohammad Siraj (2 for 84) and Shardul Thakur (2 for 37).
