India needed 157 more runs to win the first Test against England and had 9 wickets in hand. Due to rain on the last day of the Test match, not a single ball was bowled and the match was declared a draw. Nottingham: Incessant rain kept India from losing their first chance against England as the fifth and final day of the day ended without a ball being bowled on Sunday. This forced both the teams to agree on the distribution of points. India needed 157 more runs to win on the last day and had 9 wickets in hand. But not a single ball was bowled due to incessant rain. According to the points system for the new World Test Championship round, both the teams got four points each. However, Indian captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri will be happy for four reasons even if they miss the chance.
Reason 1: All 20 wickets fast
Captain Virat Kohli, the entire team and coach Ravi Shastri will be disappointed to be denied a chance to come close to winning the match. However, this match has also given him many positive signs, which will be pleasant for him. In fact, Team India had defeated England on every front in the first Test. Jasprit Bumrah (9 wickets) performed brilliantly in both the innings and under his leadership the team managed to take all 20 wickets for England. It is generally very rare in England. In the match, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami took 4 wickets each, while Siraj took 3 wickets.
Rain snatched victory from Team India, first test draw against England
Second reason- defeat doesn’t start
Another positive for India. India have always lost the first Test in England in recent times, apart from the 2007 and 2014 series, and in that sense the result can be good.
Third reason – KL Rahul’s batting
Rahul lost his place in the Test team in England in 2018 due to poor form. After that time, he did not get a place in Team India in the series played against West Indies in India. Not only this, despite scoring a century at the Oval, he could not save his place in the team. However, Rahul looked quite confident in the first Test, despite a few deliveries from James Anderson going down the edge of the bat towards near-slip. His discipline while batting was commendable. He was ready to play close to the body and did not tamper with most of the balls outside the off-stump.
Kumble’s record was broken by Anders in the first Test against India
Fourth reason- Bumrah’s form
Bumrah was not in rhythm in the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand. Also, his performances in the Australia tour and the series against England in India were not impressive. In the first test, Bumrah bowled almost all the batsmen with his full length bowling. Bumrah’s yorker had not been dominant in the last few matches, but his yorker in England’s second innings was perfect.
