Krunal Pandya: Krunal Pandya, despite being a coroner, made a serious mistake with a BCCI medical officer? – Question on role of BCCI medical officer in Sri Lanka as he delays Kunal Pandya’s Covid test

salient feature:

Sri Lankan Krunal Pandya had a sore throat and as per protocol rushed to the medical officer. The team medical officer did not test Krunal’s antigen and allowed him to attend the team meeting. Kunal Pandya, a member of the Indian cricket team, suffered an injury during the series. As a result, questions are being raised against the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical officer who went on tour with the team. Despite Krunal having symptoms of corona, the officer delayed the RT-PCR test. As a result, eight players could not play in two T20 matches.

It is now learned that Krunal Pandya had symptoms like sore throat and immediately contacted team doctor Abhijeet Salvi on 26 July. But neither rapid antigen test was done nor isolation of Krunal.

Despite a sore throat, the team doctor allowed Krunal to attend the team meeting and on the morning of July 27, he was tested for RT-PCR. The report came in the afternoon and then BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket together decided to cancel the match. Which was played the next day. Apart from this, eight players who were in close contact with Kunal were also tested.

Initially the test of all the players came negative but before the team’s return from Sri Lanka, the reports of Krishnappa Gautam and Yuzvendra Chahal also came positive.

Under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian team went to Sri Lanka to play a series of three ODIs and three T20 Internationals. The coach of the team was Rahul Dravid. India won the ODI series 2-1 but lost the T20 series 1-2.

A BCCI source said on the condition of anonymity that on July 26, Krunal Pandya had a sore throat and had contacted a medical officer following the protocol. Krunal should have been tested for rapid rapid antigen and isolated. But nothing of the sort happened.

The rapid antigen test is not the final but it is the first step in the protocol. I can say for sure that Krunal went to the team meeting despite having a sore throat. Another big question also arises as to why tests were conducted every third day during IPL when BCCI medical team in Sri Lanka decided to conduct tests every five days.

He said board secretary Jay Shah had intervened and the series was canceled due to the decision to isolate players who were in close contact with Krunal. Jay Shah saved the series from being canceled and also helped the Sri Lankan Cricket Board.

A media agency contacted Dr. Salvin, whose performance has been questioned, and inquired about his whereabouts. Salvi, however, said he would not comment on the matter.
