Captain Joe Root’s scintillating unbeaten century and Jonny Bairstow’s half-century helped England take the lead against India in the second Test at Lord’s. Despite all the efforts of the Indian bowlers, they failed to get out of the way till the end. After the dismissal of Bairstow, the England batsmen could not stay with Root for long. Root caught one end of the net and pushed the scoreboard forward. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper Jos Buttler was dismissed after scoring 23 runs in 42 balls. While Moeen Ali scored 27 runs in 72 balls, the pavilion got deposited.

On one hand the Indian bowlers were picking up wickets but the path was awkward. He played an innings of 180 not out. Root hit 18 fours in his innings of 321 balls. Mohammad Siraj took the fastest four wickets for India. While Ishant Sharma had three hits and Mohammad Shamin had two hits. Jasprit Bumrah and Jadeja did not get a single wicket.
