Tek Chand became the Indian flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics held at the Japan National Stadium. 54 Indian para-athletes will participate in the Paralympic Games in nine sports. The opening ceremony of the Paralympics took place on Tuesday in which Tek Chand led the Indian team with the tricolour. Thangavelu Mariyappan has been quarantined after he came in contact with a coronavirus positive person on a flight to Tokyo. Due to which Tek Chand became the Indian flag bearer at the opening ceremony held at the Japan National Stadium.

A total of 4403 athletes will take part in the Tokyo Games. In which 2550 male and 1853 female athletes are included. These athletes will compete for medals in 22 sports. In 2016, 4,328 athletes participated in the Rio Paragames. In view of this, record athletes are participating in the Tokyo Para Games.
