Dhaka: At least 52 people were killed and dozens injured after a fire broke out at a food factory on the outskirts of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka. According to fire brigade officials, a fire broke out at Shejan Juice Factory, Rupgej, Narayanganj at around 5 pm on Thursday. The fire is suspected to have started from the basement of the factory building. After this, it spread rapidly due to the presence of chemical bottles and plastic bottles in the basement.
According to the Dhaka Tribune, 52 people have died in the accident. More than 50 people got burnt. Many workers jumped out of the factory to escape the fire.
How many fire engines are needed to put out the fire at Hashem Foods Ltd.’s factory? People gathered outside the factory in search of their families. Out of those missing in the fire, 45 workers have been identified.
The surviving workers and their relatives allege that the only exit from the factory was closed at the time of the fire. He also claimed that there were no fire prevention measures in the factory.
In addition, Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of Narayanganj Fire Brigade, said that it will take more time to bring the fire under control. He said that till the time the fire was not brought under control, the damage caused by the accident could not be ascertained and the cause of the fire could not be ascertained. The district administration has constituted a five-member inquiry committee to probe the incident.
