Captain Shikhar Dhawan and Ishan Kishan scored brilliant half-centuries as India registered a comfortable seven-wicket win in the first ODI in Colombo on Sunday. In reply to the easy target of 263 runs, India started with a bang. The opening pair of captain Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw gave the team a bad start. The pair shared a partnership of 58 runs in just 5.3 overs. Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for 43 runs in 24 balls with the help of nine fours.
Dhawan then teamed up with wicketkeeper Ishant Kishan, who made his ODI debut through this match, to lead the innings aggressively. The quick batting of this pair made India’s victory easy. Dhawan and Kish shared an 85-run partnership. India scored 143 runs in 17.5 overs when Kishan was dismissed. Kish played an innings of 59 runs in 42 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes.
Even after Kishan’s dismissal, Dhawan continued his brilliant batting and remained unbeaten till the end. Manish Pandey scored 26 runs while Suryakumar Yadav, playing the first ODI of his career, also batted as expected. Suryakumar scored 31 runs in 20 balls with the help of five fours and remained unbeaten. Dhawan played an unbeaten 86 off 95 balls with the help of six fours and a six. Dhananjay de Silva took two wickets for Sri Lanka and Lakshan Sadanandak took one wicket.

The Sri Lankan team, who batted first after winning the toss, got off to a good start. Openers Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka got off to a great start. The pair shared a 49-run partnership for the first wicket. In the end, Yuzvendra Chahal broke the tie and got Fernando out to give India the first win. He scored 32 runs in 35 balls with the help of two fours and a six.
Later Rajapaksa took over the innings with Bhanuka. However, at the age of 89, Sri Lanka suffered two setbacks. Kuldeep Yadav accelerated two wickets in his one over. Bhanuka also deposited the pavilion after Rajapaksa was dismissed. Rajapaksa was dismissed for 24 runs in 22 balls. Which included two fours and two sixes. While Minod Bhanuka scored 27 runs.
Sri Lanka then lost wickets at regular intervals preventing them from scoring big. However, Charit Aslanka and captain Dasun Shanaka formed a crucial partnership to take the team’s score to a respectable position. Captain Shanaka contributed 39 while Aslanka contributed 38 runs.
Chamika Karunaratne played the most unbeaten innings of 43 runs for Sri Lanka. He hit one four and two sixes in 35 balls. The performance of the Indian bowlers was strong. Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Deepak Chahar took two wickets each. While Hardik Pandya and Kunal Pandya got one success each.
