Cleveland fans blasted for not supporting, respecting Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians easily defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-1 at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland on Tuesday evening to improve to 68-59 overall.

Heading into Wednesday’s MLB action, the first-place Guardians held a slim one-and-a-half game lead over the second-place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central standings. That’s quite an impressive feat so late into the season considering Spotrac notes that the Guardians are currently 27th out of 30 clubs in payroll totals.

Earlier this month, Pittsburgh columnist Dejan Kovacevic used the Guardians’ success as a way to blast the ownership and front office of the Pittsburgh Pirates. One Cleveland media member has now hit out at local fans for taking the Guardians for granted in the closing days of summer.

During an appearance on ESPN Cleveland, Cleveland sports reporter and media personality Andre Knott seemed to take some shots at supporters in Northeast Ohio who clearly and openly care more about the Cleveland Browns than the Guardians.

“I say it because I don’t want it to be true,” Knott explained during the radio segment. “The Cleveland Guardians organization, coaching staff, players, are respected more throughout the rest of baseball than it is in Cleveland. And it’s sad, but it’s true.

“I know multiple coaches and scouts that say, ‘we would kill to have what Cleveland has.'”
