A man who shared his brother’s unusual eating habits has captured viral attention online.
The Reddit user, who goes by the name Waffles, is from California. The 14-year-old lives with his 18-year-old brother who has a rather unusual habit when it comes to instant macaroni and cheese.
In a post on the popular r/mildlyinfuriating forum, he explained: “My brother only eats the cheese packets in the instant mac and cheese and then puts it back on the shelf.”
With over 25,000 upvotes, the instant cheese habit is far from the first time a strange food choice has caught viral attention. In 2021, TikTok users gained attention after creating unusual recipes from history, including a 1950s Jell-O salad and a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich that left stomachs churning.
This year, a restaurant’s “specialty” pizza horrified the internet after a viral post showed a pizza including a thick dough base, marinara sauce, toppings including salami or bell peppers and a covering of American cheese in big square slices.
The instant cheese fan has gained attention as Reddit users asked: “How does he consume it? Just eating the powder with a spoon or something?”
Waffles responded, explaining: “He just tears open the packet and sprinkles it into his mouth.”
He isn’t the only one having his snacking habits judged—a survey of 2,000 Americans recently revealed that 69 percent of people in long-term relationships admitted that they judge their partner for eating certain foods.
But unusual foods weren’t completely shunned either. Two in three people said they’d be willing to give apple pie with cheddar cheese a try, but only one in four said they’d give bean brownies a try.
Reddit user Waffles told Newsweek: “I have no idea how long he’s been doing this, but he went through an entire bulk pack of instant mac and cheese.”
Although his brother has never explained why, Waffles joked: “He’s just bizarre in general. He goes out of his way to eat weird food. It’s caused arguments, who wants cheeseless mac? Also, the pasta is stale since it’s been sitting out.”
The post about his brother’s unusual habit captured viral attention and prompted hundreds of comments from Reddit users.
One viewer of the post joked, “It ain’t easy being cheesy,” while another said, “He needs to be stopped lol.”
“Throw him away, your brother is broken,” said a commenter, while one asked, “Is he…evil?”
Another Reddit user said: “Call the priest… or an exorcist… or if possible the ghostbusters? Maybe the police.”
